VS 600M Truck Simulator

Developed by Virage Simulation, the AMTA owns two simulators; one that is based out of AMTA’s Rocky View office, and another that is based out of Edmonton’s office. These simulators are used for training and can be transported to off-site locations, as needed.

“In real-world training, some objectives are too risky, too slow, or simply impossible to achieve at all. In a simulator, we can expose drivers to various hazards; we can replicate and simulate the most complex driving tasks and traffic situations; and we can objectively score driver performance. In the real world, this level of safety and precision in training is difficult to achieve. And of course, using the simulator is cost-effective compared to using an actual truck.”

– Remi Quimper, Vice-President, Virage Simulation

Key Features
  • Automatic and manual transmissions
    • Automatic and automated manual transmissions
    • Eaton-Fuller 10-, 13-, 18-speed manual transmissions
  • High-performance compact 3-axis motion system
  • High fidelity visual scenes with virtual 360-degree view from driver’s seat
  • Realistic steering wheel, clutch, throttle and brake response
The Objective

Simulation exposes drivers to various scenarios, allowing them to increase their confidence and hone their skills in a controlled environment. Various scenario modules allow for targeted, customized training for each driver.

The Most Critical Component

The most critical component of a training simulator is the ability to practice skills and behaviors in a controlled environment. Students can be exposed to situations and conditions they may not normally encounter in the real world, allowing them to practice critical responses.

The Visual

The visual span of a simulator’s driver’s seat provides real-life perspective with a 180-degree forward field of view. Rear-view mirrors are built in and all visual representation is supported by LCD high resolution display technology.

Training Programs

The following programs are offered to meet your organization’s needs:

  • Shifting an Eaton-Fuller 10-, 13-, or 18-speed manual transmission
  • Skid control
  • Handling wheel drop-offs
  • Ditch entry (rollover prevention)
  • Head-on collision avoidance
  • Snowplow operations

The simulator scenario designs are based on proven, applied principles. Lessons and evaluations will be performed under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Attention can be given to shifting, maneuvering in confined areas, optimizing vehicle performance and hazard recognition.

The most significant benefit of a simulated experience is the evaluation process by  providing hands-on learning and immediate feedback.
